Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important official commented the attack made him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
